The South Peace Historical Society is a dedicated organization committed to preserving and celebrating the rich history and heritage of Dawson Creek and the surrounding area. We operate a museum in the former Northern Alberta Railways station, own several of the buildings in the Walter Wright Pioneer Village and operate a publicly accessible archives with over 5,000 photographs and historic documents

Job Description:
As a Museum & Heritage Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the operations and activities of the N.A.R. Station Museum. Your responsibilities will include:
• Assisting with the organization and execution of community events.
• Welcoming and engaging with visitors at the museum and Pioneer Village.
• Supporting the development and promotion of exhibits and educational programs.
• Creating content for social media to enhance public engagement.
• Contributing to the preservation of local heritage by maintaining records and exhibits.

About Dawson Creek:
Nestled in the beautiful Peace River region of northeastern British Columbia, Dawson Creek is known as Mile Zero of the historic Alaska Highway. The city offers a welcoming small-town atmosphere with plenty of opportunities to explore local culture and history. Must-visit attractions include the Walter Wright Pioneer Village, N.A.R. Station Museum and the Dawson Creek Art Gallery.

Qualifications and Experience

Required Qualifications:

• Interest in learning about local history and engaging with the community.

• Basic proficiency in social media platforms (e.g., Facebook).

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently when needed.

Previous experience in customer service, event planning, or social media management is an asset but not required.

• are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible);

• are legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid social insurance number);

• are between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment; and

• are a high school, college, CEGEP or university student.
